Toothpaste damage according to the World Health Organization resistance to bacteria is one of the biggest threats affecting public health. A large number of serious infections, such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and gonorrhea, are becoming harder to treat, and antibiotics used to treat them are becoming less effective. Antibiotics are drugs used to deal with bacterial infections.

Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria stop responding to the effects of antibiotics and become immune to them, making it more difficult when dealing with virus-specific diseases, and although antibiotic resistance occurs naturally, drug abuse makes the process faster.

A recent study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy found that other causes can increase the problem of exposure to antibiotic resistance.

According to the researchers, the cofactor can be blamed on antibiotics and antifungals called triclosan and is found in toothpaste, soap, and cleaning fluids.

The study revealed that resistance to triclosan could also lead to resistance to quinolones and then, the challenge for triclosan can encourage the growth of strains resistant to antibiotics.

Researchers from the University of Birmingham have carried out a test on E bacteria. coli, known as a stomach bug, and found that it became resistant to quinolones in addition to triclosan.

The use of triclosan in cleaning products has been banned in the European Union and the USA. In fact, the US Food and Drug Administration has warned that triclosan can contribute to antibiotic resistance.

While the use of triclosan is prohibited in soap, body lotion, and other products, it is still present in toothpaste, it is added to prevent contamination and plaque build-up, but recent studies have shown that triclosan can disrupt metabolism, cause hormonal problems in children, and promote drug-resistant injuries.

Keep in mind that the use of triclosan in toothpaste is worrying because the chemical compound can be easily absorbed into the bloodstream through the gums. It remains to be questioned whether triclosan is harmful to health.

The study raised the level of warning about specific ingredients found in products we use daily and changing ecosystems, potentially promoting the selection of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
